Nine Men's Morris
A board game played in the Roman Empire .
One of the original , ancient board games. Form a line of 3 of your game pieces and then you can remove one of your opponents pieces. It's a little bit like noughts and crosses (well, sort of)
Never a big favourite with my family, I think partly because we were already playing things like 'Home You Go' and 'Ludo'. But it was certainly interesting from the perspective of imagining Romans playing this and just realising the weight of history this game holds. It came to me as a present from 'Santa' at a children's Christmas party and used to occasionally get an airing at Christmas time. Strangely enough , for a game I played so little , I still have my copy safely sorted away in the attic.
